Automating the Multiprocessing Environment
نویسنده
چکیده
1989 Summary An approach to automate the programming and operation of tree-structured networks of multiprocessor systems is discussed. A conceptual, knowledge-based operating environment is presented, and requirements for two major technology elements are identified as follows: (I) An intelligent information translator is proposed for implementing information transfer between dissimilar hardware and software, thereby enabling independent and modular development of future systems and promoting a language-independence of codes and information; (2) A resident system activity manager, which recognizes the systems capabilities and monitors the status of all systems within the environment, is proposed for integrating dissimilar systems into effective parallel processing resources to optimally meet user needs. Finally, key computational capabilities which must be provided before the environment can be realized are identified.

Automating real-time multi-threaded application development
Over the past decade, the advances made in VLSI devices have driven the development of cost-effective, symmetric multiprocessor architectures. In turn, operating systems have evolved to take advantage of the true concurrency offered by these architectures. However, because of the lack of adequate development tools, delivery of the intrinsic benefits of these platforms directly to applications h...
متن کاملBenchmarking Multiprocessing Parameters in a Virtualized Multi-Core Environment
A virtualized multi-core environment is a multi-core machine running virtual machines with multiple virtual cpus. Previous research has demonstrated that the performance of multi-threaded, disk intensive, and network intensive applications in such an environment can be greatly improved by correctly tuning certain simple multiprocessing related system parameters like cpu affinity and interrupt a...

EME - low-cost embedded multiprocessing environment
This paper presents EME, a low-cost solution for a highly modular multiprocessing hardware-software environment useful in designing autonomous mobile robots. High processing capabilities, the ability to interface a large number of sensors and actuators, extensibility, redundancy and exibility are issues addressed by this environment. An autonomous robot equipped with two cameras, one for line-f...
متن کاملEvaluation of a Dual-Core SMP and AMP Architecture based on an Embedded Case Study
Typical telecom applications apply a planar architecture pattern based on the processing requirements of each subsystem. In a symmetric multiprocessing environment all applications share the same hardware resources. However, currently embedded hardware platforms are being designed with asymmetric multiprocessor architectures to improve separation and increase performance of noninterfering tasks...
